The Genesis

Hey there,

I'm Andrés, the founder of PLAZA.

For the greater part of the last decade, my life has been deeply online: studying online, working remotely and contributing to online communities.

The Opportunity

Thanks to the Internet I've had the great opportunity of meeting very interesting people—people I would never have met otherwise.

The Problem

But it also exposed a quiet downside that kept repeating:

Most online platforms are great at content.
But they’re terrible at connection.

They don’t help you maintain relationships.

They don’t make follow-through easy.

And they often turn “being social” into scrolling, reacting, and broadcasting.

So even when you do meet someone interesting, the relationship usually dies from friction:

  • too much noise
  • no structure
  • no shared context over time
  • no gentle way to turn “nice chat” into “see you Thursday”

But deep relationships need completely different ingredients:

  • repeated contact
  • mutual context
  • trust
  • low-friction follow-through

The Insight

At some point it clicked for me: this isn’t a technology problem—it’s an incentives problem. If a platform wins when you scroll more, your relationships will always be secondary.

That's when the seed was planted.

PLAZA is that attempt to build an online “public plaza” designed to foster real, long-term relationships—thereby creating a more humane and social internet.
